Monday, June 23: Plagiarism and Copyright for Teachers: Don’t Be a CopyCat!
What exactly is plagiarism? How can I teach students to cite sources easily? How can I make sure that both my students and I are complying with copyright laws? Join us for an updated look at this topic to refresh your knowledge with copyright, especially in today’s digital world. We will discuss what qualifies as Fair Use and provide you with web sites and tools that will enable you to discuss and enforce copyright in your classroom, including online tools for citing sources. Help both you and your students know the difference and stop being a COPYCAT! (ADE Criteria: Content, Instructional strategies, Educational technology)
Objectives:
  • Participants will gain a better understanding of plagiarism and copyright.
  • Participants will be able to explain what Fair Use is and how it impacts their classroom.
  • Participants will assess their teaching and their own compliance with copyright laws.
  • Participants will discuss the importance of academic integrity, intellectual property, and copyright compliance.
